Privacy Policy

SteadyPrompter · Last updated: August 23, 2026

SteadyPrompter is a teleprompter app published under the Vardnir name ("we", "us", "our"). This policy is short because the app is: it has no accounts, no servers of ours, and nothing you write or record is ever sent to us.

1. The short version

SteadyPrompter runs entirely on your own device. Your scripts and your recordings stay there. We cannot see them, we do not have a copy of them, and we could not retrieve them for you if you asked. There is nothing to sign in to.

2. Who we are (data controller)

SteadyPrompter is made and published under the Vardnir name by Tor-Erik Humlen, an independent developer in Norway, who is the data controller for the limited personal data described below. Questions: hello@vardnir.com.

3. Your scripts

The text you paste or type into SteadyPrompter is stored only on your device, in the app's own storage. It is not uploaded, backed up to us, analysed, or used to train AI models. Deleting the app deletes your scripts. If your device backs itself up (iCloud Backup, Google's backup), that backup is between you and Apple or Google — we are not part of it.

4. Camera, microphone and your recordings

SteadyPrompter can film you while you read. This is how it works:

Once a recording is in your photo library it is an ordinary video that belongs to you, governed by your own device and cloud settings — not by this policy.

5. What we actually collect

From the app: nothing. SteadyPrompter makes no network requests of its own, contains no analytics, no advertising identifiers, no tracking SDKs, and no crash reporting that identifies you.

The single exception is the moment you choose to buy something. The purchase runs on StoreKit, Apple's own payment sheet talking to Apple — the same connection your device used to install the app. It is not our code, not our server, and it hands us nothing about you. We use no purchase or analytics SDK from any third party, which is why the App Store privacy label for this app reads Data Not Collected.

Outside the app, two things touch you:

6. Legal bases (GDPR)

Where we do process personal data, we rely on: performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)) for supplying the app and anything you buy in it; legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) for anonymous, aggregated website statistics and for answering your emails; and legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)) for accounting and tax records. We do no profiling and no automated decision-making.

7. Sub-processors

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not "sell" or "share" personal information as those terms are defined in the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA). The app itself uses no sub-processors at all. For the website and the purchase:

We may disclose data if required by law, and only to the extent legally required.

8. Retention

We hold no scripts, no recordings and no account data, so there is nothing of yours for us to retain or delete. Purchase and invoicing records are kept as long as Norwegian bookkeeping law requires (up to five years). Support emails are kept as long as needed to handle your request and for a reasonable period afterwards.

9. Your rights

If you are in the EU/EEA, UK or Switzerland, you have the right to access, correct, delete, export, restrict and object to processing of your personal data, and to withdraw consent where processing is based on it. If you are in California or another US state with a privacy law, you have the right to know, access, correct and delete your personal information, and to opt out of its sale or sharing — we do not sell or share it, so there is nothing to opt out of, and we will never discriminate against you for exercising your rights. We extend the same core rights to everyone, wherever you live.

In practice there is very little for us to act on, because we hold almost nothing about you. Email hello@vardnir.com and we will respond within one month. You also have the right to complain to a supervisory authority — in Norway, Datatilsynet (datatilsynet.no); elsewhere, your local data protection authority.

10. On-device storage

The app stores your scripts and your settings (speed, text size, mirroring, light or dark) on the device. All of it is strictly necessary for the app to work, and all of it is local. No cookies, no tracking identifiers.

11. Security

Because your scripts and recordings never leave your device, the security that protects them is your device's own — its passcode, its encryption, and its backups. Keep your device locked and up to date. This website is served over TLS.

12. Children

SteadyPrompter is not directed at children. You must be at least 13 years old to use it (16 in the EU/EEA where local law sets that age). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children; since the app collects none from anyone, this is a formality rather than a risk.

13. Changes to this policy

If the app ever gains a feature that changes what is described here — cloud sync, an account, analytics — this policy will be updated before that feature ships, and the change will be described in the app's release notes. The "last updated" date above always reflects the current version.
