Terms of Service
These terms govern your use of the SteadyPrompter app. SteadyPrompter is published under the Vardnir name by Tor-Erik Humlen, an independent developer in Norway ("Vardnir", "we", "us"). By using SteadyPrompter you agree to these terms. Where you buy something in the app through an app store, that store's own terms also apply to the purchase (see section 3).
1. What SteadyPrompter is
SteadyPrompter is a teleprompter. You put your text in, it scrolls at a speed you set in words per minute, and you read it. It can film you while you do, saving the video to your own device. There is no account, nothing to sign in to, and the app works with no internet connection.
2. Your scripts and your recordings stay yours
You own everything you write in SteadyPrompter and everything you film with it. We claim no rights over any of it, and we could not use it if we wanted to: it never leaves your device. We do not use your content to train AI models.
Because we hold no copy, we cannot recover your scripts if you delete the app or lose your device. Keep your own copies of anything that matters.
3. What is free, and the one thing that is not
SteadyPrompter is free to download, and free to use: the prompter, the timing, importing and exporting your script, as many scripts as you like, rehearsing, and recording your voice. None of that is limited, and none of it expires.
Videos you film carry a small SteadyPrompter mark in the top corner. One optional in-app purchase removes it — a single payment, not a subscription, with nothing to renew and nothing to cancel. The price is shown in the app before you buy. Buying it once entitles you to it on every device signed in to the same App Store account, under the store's own restore and family-sharing terms. The mark is written into the video as it is recorded, so buying afterwards does not change a file you already made.
The purchase is processed by the app store (Apple as merchant of record on the App Store; Google on Google Play), using the store's own payment sheet. We never see your payment details. Payment, VAT and refunds — including any statutory right of withdrawal — are handled by the store under its own terms. For Apple, refund requests go to reportaproblem.apple.com. If you get stuck, email hello@vardnir.com and we will help you find the right path. Nothing here limits non-waivable rights you have under your local law.
4. Filming other people
SteadyPrompter records whatever is in front of the camera. Whether you may lawfully film a given person, place or situation is your responsibility, not ours. Consent and recording laws differ from country to country and from state to state — some require the consent of everyone recorded, some do not; some restrict recording in particular places. Before you record, make sure you have whatever permission the law where you are requires. We provide a camera button, not legal clearance.
5. Acceptable use
You may not use SteadyPrompter to:
- Violate any applicable law, or infringe anyone's intellectual property, privacy, or other rights.
- Record anyone covertly or unlawfully, or in a place or manner where recording is prohibited.
- Reverse-engineer or otherwise misuse the app, or resell or sublicense access to it.
6. Availability and changes to the app
The app runs on your device and needs no service from us to keep working, so there is nothing for us to take offline. We may add or change features in updates, and we may stop publishing new updates — neither takes away a copy you already have. Whether an old version keeps running on a future operating system is ultimately up to Apple and Google, not us.
7. Your responsibility — use at your own risk
SteadyPrompter is a reading and recording tool. What you say, film, publish or otherwise do with it is entirely your own responsibility and at your own risk. In particular:
- Your content and its consequences: you are solely responsible for what you read out, what you record, and anything you publish from it — including its accuracy, its legality, and any third-party claims (copyright, defamation, privacy).
- Your own backups: keep copies of scripts and recordings that matter to you. We hold nothing and cannot restore anything.
- Live performance: the app is an aid, not a guarantee. A device can run out of battery, overheat, receive a call, or be interrupted by its own operating system in the middle of a take. For anything that cannot be repeated, have a fallback.
8. Indemnification
To the extent permitted by the law of your country of residence, you agree to indemnify and hold Vardnir harmless from third-party claims, damages and reasonable costs (including legal fees) arising from your content, your recordings, your use of the app in breach of these terms, or your violation of any law or third-party right. This does not apply where the claim was caused by our own breach, and it does not limit your rights as a consumer.
9. Disclaimer and limitation of liability
SteadyPrompter is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied — including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or fit for your particular use.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost data, recordings, profits, revenue, goodwill or opportunities arising from your use of (or inability to use) the app — even if advised of the possibility. Our total liability for all claims combined is limited to the amount you paid for the app.
Consumer rights: nothing in these terms excludes or limits rights you have under mandatory consumer protection law where you live, including liability that cannot lawfully be excluded (such as for intent, gross negligence, or personal injury). Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty exclusions or liability limits, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
10. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of Norway. If you are a consumer in the EU/EEA or the UK, you additionally benefit from the mandatory consumer protections of the country where you live, and may bring proceedings in the courts of that country. All other disputes shall be resolved in the Norwegian courts.
If you have a complaint, contact us first at hello@vardnir.com — most things can be sorted out directly. EU/EEA consumers may also contact their national consumer body (in Norway, Forbrukertilsynet).
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. Material changes will be described in the app's release notes, and the "last updated" date above always reflects the current version. Continuing to use the app after a change means the new terms apply.
